Happy Thursday babes!

So we have been on the Keto diet since the second of the month and it has been going really well. Usually every January we attempt the Whole30, but I always end up failing two days into it. So, why is keto going so much better? Well I definitely think every diet or diet change is a mindset. You have to mentally be prepared for it. Honestly, I was never mentally prepared for the Whole30. But since keto is more of a lifestyle change rather than something you limit to only 30 days. I felt like it was a great way to change our eating habits without completely cutting out all of the delicious foods we love, like cheese and cream!! Plus, if we had a little “cheat” meal I knew I wouldn’t feel like a complete failure since this diet will be our new normal.

Ok, so keto is short for ketosis which is a normal metabolic process. According to Google, when the body doesn’t have enough glucose for energy, it uses stored fats instead; resulting in a build-up of acids called ketones. Yes please, use up all of my stored fat! Thank you!

Yes, the Keto diet is very similar to the Whole30, but you can eat full fat creams, like heavy whipping cream, half & half, butter, cream cheese, and full fat cheeses. You do want to sparingly eat fruits and I would completely avoid bananas, apples, and melons since they are higher in carbohydrates.  We have been loving raspberries with unsweetened whipped cream at night!

One other huge different between keto and Whole30 would be no root vegetable! That means no potatoes of any kind, no carrots and no beets or radishes. Sadly, they are all extremely high in carbohydrates.

You can also, sparingly, have dark chocolate (80%) and I know some people who have made a keto version of “Reese’s” that I am tempted to try and make. I’m sure some of y’all are thinking, ok, well I have to have sweetener in my coffee! I have gotten use to black coffee, but you are allowed to use Truvia and Stevia (sparingly!). Another reason why to me this is more of a lifestyle change than Whole30. Everything about the Keto diet is manageable.

I plan on sharing as we go along, but one of our favorite meals so far is zucchini alfredo topped with grilled chicken. Later this week we are making spaghetti squash pad tai! Yum!!

Are you trying out a new diet or did you make a lifestyle change this New Year? Let me know in the comments!

Love this post! Did you notice sugar cravings at the start of this diet? And if yes, how long did it last? Can you give more details on this topic, we would be very interested to hear 🙂

Hey Renee! Yes there were definitely some sugar cravings. some people go through what they call the Keto flu. Which my mom did and she said really felt like she had the flu for 2 days. You can have stevia sparingly!

My hubby cycles on and off of keto and has seen the best results with it. The only thing he complains about is that it’s hard to make significant gains in the gym since he isn’t eating the carbs to help rebuild his muscles. There are some great cookbooks out there, and I actually eat a lot less carbs when he’s keto as a result and do notice that I feel much better!

Thats so awesome! yea we are loving it so far. Today we just made a “pizza” out of mozzarella and eggs and it was so good. Tonight I plan on making pad thai out of spaghetti squash.
